We thought we’d introduce you to one of our all-time favourite photographers, Slim Aarons.. THE MAN! Born and raised in New York in 1912 he was regarded as one of the most influential magazine photographers of his time. Aarons enlisted in the US army at 18 years old as a war photographer, later serving as a combat photographer in World War II and earning a Purple Heart, he quickly learnt that the only beach worth landing on was one “decorated with beautiful, seminude girls tanning in a tranquil sun.”
Having moved to Hollywood California after the war and becoming a personality himself, he began photographing the more superficial things in life “attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places.” “I knew everyone,” he said in an interview with The Independent in 2002. He photographed socialites, jet-setters, the rich & famous, nobles and celebrities, usually in their own lavish settings, and he never used a stylist, or a makeup artist. His ability to portray the people he photographed in a positive light meant he was welcomed at these high-society gatherings for this reason. “I knew everyone, they invited me to their parties as they knew that I would not cause them any harm”. “I was one of them”.
